Faro Flights From Cardiff

Cardiff International Airport has announced the introduction of flights to 12 destinations in Europe and Middle East from next year.

Charter airline Excel Airways will offer flights to Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and Egypt. The weekly flights could push annual passenger numbers at the south Wales airport above two million.

Managing director Jon Horne said Excel would attracted about 100,000 new passengers to the airport. Excel's website has already been set up to take bookings for its 2006 Wales-based operation.

Holiday makers can choose destinations from Faro Airport in Portugal to Corfu in Greece .Flights will also be available to Dalaman in Turkey and the Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh.

The airline will also fly to seven Airports in Spain, including southern Tenerife, with its fleet of 189-seater Boeing 737 800s.

Details of the new services are due to be unveiled at the airport on Tuesday by Mr Horne and Excel Airways marketing director Martin Lock.

Cardiff International Airport said the move will allow it to strengthen its appeal to holidaymakers across Wales and the south west of England.

Airport Sales and Marketing Director Vincent Ray said: "The airport are very pleased to be able to announce that for summer 2006, another charter airline will be operating to a total of 12 destinations from Cardiff, increasing the range of destinations available to the Welsh and south west travelling public."
