Hi Joe,

I wonder if you can help me. I am trying to find out about a bus that goes from malaga sta tation to faro. (Alzo bus?)

My son is staying with friends and has to meet up with me on the 15th of july.

Do you know what time the bus leaves?. Does it oprerate on a Sunday? How long does it take? and What price?

I would be so grateful if you could help me, I have gone down so many avenues and ended in a cul de sac.

Kindest regards,

Nueva Andalucia, Marbella to Faro

Dear Jo,

Sorry, please ignore my last email in which I said Malaga to Faro.

Actually, I am travelling from Nueva Andalucía to Faro Airport by car, so how long is this likely to take? What is the best route?

Looking at the map, via Ronda seems the most direct, but is it the quickest?

My Best Regards,

Barry

HI BARRY,We often drive to faro from nueva andalucia. If you dont mind driving up a very steep mountain then go via ronda, but we prefer to drive to Algeciras and then take the road to sevilla. Its a really nice new road to drive on goes via jerez. there is a little funny turning where you have to come off close to jerez and then continue, (where they havent finished the road properly). then you follow to seville and then onto huelva and finally faro. We travel with a little kid so have to stop for toilet but generally around 4.5 hours. the drive from seville to huelva is always longer than we think.Have a great time,RegardsJOanne www.nuevaandalucia.blogspot.com

Jerez to Albufeira

Hi Gary
Can you tell me how long it would take to drive from Jerez airport to Albufeira? What would be the best route to take?
Thanks
Ms K Harding

Well, we drive to Portugal regularly from Marbella. We go your way to Jerez and then carry on the road to seville and accross to Faro. Then just continue on to Albufeira. Faro is around 1.5 hours from Seville. Jerez to Seville is around the same yes? So I think another 45 mins maybe.

Have a nice time

Buses from Faro to Seville

Hi Gary,

Need some help, I’m flying into Faro on 1st of June but I need to leave Faro on 2nd & get to Seville.

Renting a car is out of the question due to the ridiculous fee of bringing it to another country.

Is there any other way? Bus/train/drivers (I fly out of Seville so there is no issue on getting home)

Also is it true its only an 1.5hr drive?

Thanks in advance,

Sinead

Gary.I am looking to spend 2 weeks in Vilamoura and then spend 2 weeks in Javea Spain.
What would be the best route to take in terms of cost against time. I have already looked into driving which would add £700 due to cross country charge.

Faro to Albufeira

Hi Gary

I am from Toronto Canada. We have found a great package to visit Portugal, but there are no transfers from the airport to the hotel

The plane lands in Lisbon and the hotel is near Albufeira, it is called the Riu Falesia. I have read conflicting reports on how easy it is to make the drive, and how long it will take. My worry is on the way home, the plane leaves Lisbon at 12:30 so we have to drive early in the morning to make it on time.

Please give me your opinion on how long the drive will take, as some reports say 2.5 hours which is fine, but some say 4-5 hours and that would be too far.

Also, do you know of a service who sends out free travel guides and maps of Portugal?

Thank you so much.

Getting from Alicante to Faro

I am trying to find a way of getting from Alicante to Faro in August this year, for myself, wife and two children.

Car hire is only possible from the big companies and they charge a drop off fee of over 600 euros.

Is there either a train or bus service that links these two towns? If there is, how long does it take and how expensive is it?

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

Difficult and a LONG WAY, even driving would take you 8 - 10 hours!

Flights may be the best bet, info here..

Vilamoura to Marbella

Hello Gary Firtly I would like to thank you for your great web page, its really helps a lot! I do live in Vilamoura right now and curious to visit Marbella in the middle of may! Please could you help me, how I can get from Faro to Marbella (or Malaga) directly? If its possible to go there by bus directly? I will appreciate your answer! With Best regards, Zanna

My Reply..

Hi Zanna
You need to get the bus from Faro (or wherever) to Seville and then get a bus from Seville to Marbella, getting the information is tricky, am sure you can sort the Faro to Seville bit out easy enough but SEVILLE to Marbella go to this website..

Barcelona to Faro

Hi Gary
my husband needs to get from Barcelona to Faro on a Friday in July (departing Barcelona 4pm onwards), is he best to fly to Seville (I cannot find an airline that flies directly to Faro)? What would be the best way of travelling from Seville to Faro, bus, train or taxi and do you have any idea of costs etc
many thanks
sarah

My Reply...

Hi Sarah
Difficult one, no direct flights.
Barcelona to Seville is an option, he would then need to get a bus, about 2 hour journey, Taxi - huge cost, forget it!
Or fly from Barcelona to Madrid, very easy, Iberia.es or Spaniar, huge number of flights and then get a Ryanair flight direct to Faro.
Here is a link for the buses from Seville to Faro...
Personally I would go Barcelona - Madrid _ Faro!

Hi, Just an enquiry to see if you would be able to find transportation from Estepona to Faro. I can travel from Marbella or Malaga if that is easier but Estepona is my closest town. I don't mind travelling by bus or train - I am looking from something that doesn't cost too much. I noticed on the website you have help other people find suitable transportation. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Rachael

The only way is by getting a bus to Seville and then a bus from Seville to Faro.
You can get a bus from Marbella to Seville or Algerciras, I am not too sure about Estepona, think its best for you to go to the bus station and ask.

Transportation around the Algarve

Hi Gary

My wife and I are OAP and are active ,last October we spent a month travelling along the costa del sol independently , using buses and trains starting at Malaga airport , I research the time tables of the transport with no problem .This year , same time we hope to do the same along the Algarve .Starting at Faro airport we want to travel to Lagos , stay for a week ,then spend the next three weeks staying at different resorts, and working our way back to Faro. But we are finding it more difficult than the Costas, to get train and bus time tables . We would be grateful for any help , and tips you might have .

Regards Cyril & Marie

My Reply...

Hi Cyril and Marie

I have found The Bus Company for Around the Algarve.
Buses for the Algarve which go from Faro to Lagos
Here are trains for around Portugal
I hope this helps and it would be great to let us know how you got on.
Best way to search anything is to fiind the airports main website. Then go to how to get there....and you will find by bus, train etc. It does take alot of fiinding out.

Faro to Seville

Gary,

I will be in Portugal from June 24-28 arriving in Lisbon. I will rent a car there and drive down to Faro area as i hear this is nice resort town.

From there I need to get to Majorca and i found cheap flights from Seville so I need to get there which is just over 2 hours. I know there will be problem with taking the car there so I might take the bus you recommend.

It shows the time of departure at 0800 and in Seville 1300pm.

Would that be correct? 5 hours? I would also need to get from bus terminal to Seville airport to catch my flight at 1700pm. What are correct times and prices for June 28th departure?

Any help will be appreciated..

M

My Reply...

Hi M

5 hours cant be right, thats the whole journey from Lagos to Seville. I dont think the bus companies website is too hot!

The journey will be 2 hours 30 mins from Faro, best to call them to get the times: 00351 972 473 681

I really dont know about the buses in Seville but worst case is a taxi will be 18 euros.
Hope this helps and good luck

Faro to Costa del Sol

Dear Gary

I am departing to Faro on December 23rd until Jan.1st. I am traveling with two other mates (25 -27) and we would like to visit lively cities in Portugal.

Can you please recommend any particulars? Also, we are interested in taking a ferry to Costa do Sol - Cascais and Lisbon. But it appears that ferries are not running in the winter? Can you please inform me of what would be an alternative route? Many thanks

L

My Reply...

Dear L

Thanks for your email. Here is a link to quite a good website for Cascais. www.cascais.net

If the ferry is not operating, I would say the only way would be to drive, there may be buses. We have traveled numerous times from Costa del Sol to Faro and takes around 4 hours - 5 hours by car. Sometimes its good to check out some of the big hotels and see what tours they have.

To find more information out you could also post a question on www.britishexpats.com for Portugal, people are generally really helpful

Hi Fiona

Bus from Faro CITY bus station to Seville and then I would get the train down to Malaga, pretty straight forward.

For the buses read the follwoing post which expalins which bus companies go to Seville from Faro.

Buse Faro to Seville

Then read this post which gives links into the timetable from Seville to Malaga (you may need to change the dates! but the spanish rail website is in English!)

Trains Seville to Malaga

I hope that this helps and that all goes OK.

It would be great to hear from you after your trip to find out how you did it, what it cost, how long it took etc. We can then help other people with similar questions!

Please could you tell me if it is possible to get from faro to malaga airport or calahonda region of spain. I am finding it difficult to hire a car and wondered if there was a coach/bus service any ideas

Annn McWilliam
MY REPLY

Hi Ann

Tricky one, the car hire comapnies have a problem because of the 2 countries, I will email my recommended company and find out if they can do anything.

If not its a bus ride to Seville and then the train or a bus down the Malaga and then a bus to Calahonda, bit of a trip....

OR....bus to Seville and hire a car from there, there will not be any problems with leaving a car hired at Seville at say Malaga Airport but you may need to pay a one way fee of about €25 with most companies.

For the buses for the journey from Faro to Seville read the first part of this post:

http://www.faroairportguide.com/2006/06/buses-from-faro-to-seville-algerciras.html

Getting from Seville to Malaga by public transport read this post...

http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/2006/07/getting-to-malaga-from-seville.html

You would then need to get the bus or taxi down to Calahonda!

Will come back to you with news from the car hire company

Hi ChrisI have found a couple of companies who operate bus routes the easiest to understand is:

Inteiro 13,00 € 23,40 €

From Seville you would need to change onto this company who have plenty of routes down to Algerciras:

the ones written in the colour - browny /orange - De Lunes a Viernes Laborables DIRECTO. Sábados, Domingos y festivos por Jerez are the weekend buses.

Tavira on the Algarve

I just found this good little article about the village of Tavira. It was in the Sunday Mirror

"Away from the golf courses and villas which turn the Western Algarve into Kensington-on-Sea - Tavira is 30 minutes drive from Faro airport.

The town has a Roman bridge, the remains of a Moorish castle, a church clock which chimes the hour twice to make sure the fishermen don't oversleep and a leafy park.

There are good fish restaurants and for a day out you can visit sleepy towns inland, such as Sao Bras and Silves. But Tavira's secret is its white-sand beach reached by ferry (70p return) from the fishing quay. Known as the Ihla de Tavira, it is a three-mile sandbank with plenty of beach bars frequented by Portuguese families.

I book flights on the internet (BA, Monarch Scheduled, easyJet and a host of cheap charters are available) and stay b&b in a spotless room above one of the restaurants on the quay."
